When you are invited to a party, it is often difficult to come up with the perfect gift to take to the host or hostess. You don't have to spend a lot of money on an expensive bottle of wine to show your appreciation. You just need a little creativity to come up with a great gift. Here are just a few ideas to get you started:
*Flavored coffee syrup - With the increasing popularity of coffee drinks, what better gift than a lovely bottle of flavored syrup to add zest to one's coffee? These bottles of flavored syrup are available at many of the commercial coffee houses and specialty stores. They come in a variety of tasty flavors including French vanilla, hazelnut, and Irish crème, just to name a few. In addition to adding flavored syrup to coffee, you can also use it in tea, sodas, and desserts. Because most flavored syrup bottles are shaped similarly to wine bottles, a great way to present this gift is in a wine bag, whether it be a decorative velvet bag closed with a tassel, or simply a paper gift bag from your local craft or party store. Another fun way to present this gift is wrapped in a nice cloth napkin and tied up with a bow. For a more elaborate twist on this idea, create a gift basket containing coffee mugs, coffee mix, flavored syrup, and decorative stirrers.
*Meal in a basket - People who have just moved into a new house often do not have the time to plan out time-consuming meals while they are still trying to get settled. For a housewarming gift, plan out an easy meal and display it in a nice basket. No cooking is required from you, just the ingredients. A simple meal in a basket is spaghetti. In the basket, include a package of spaghetti, a jar of spaghetti sauce, and perhaps even an inexpensive cooking pot and wooden cooking utensils. Dress up your basket a bit with cloth napkins or other decorative accessories.
*Spiced tea mix in a painted container - If you enjoy painting and doing crafts, a great idea is to paint your own glass bottle or container and fill it with a powered drink mix, for example spiced tea mix or gourmet hot chocolate mix. Start out with a simple glass bottle with a stopper or glass container with a lid. These can be purchased inexpensively from your local craft or discount store. Paint any design of your choice directly onto the outside of the glass using paint made for glass. Follow the instructions on the paint container for painting and drying directions. Fill the bottle with your favorite powdered drink mix and tie a small scoop around the neck of the container with a ribbon and you have a wonderful gift.
These are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing. If you would like to stick with the old faithful wine gift, dress it up a little by attaching a decorative bottle stopper to the neck of the wine bottle with a ribbon or by placing the bottle in a decorative wine bag as described above. Just use your imagination and you too will be proud to present the host or hostess of your next party with a lovely gift of appreciation.
